Santander has issued a warning to certain groups of customers as it shared the UK territories that have been hit the hardest by a scam, ‘deluge’. On Tuesday, the baking giant stated that fraudsters had robbed millions of Pounds within the first three months of the current year, 2025.
Santander said that in the London exterior, the scammers hit Devon the hardest financially in the first quarter of the present year. More than 1.3 million Pounds were stolen, and it is a massive 315% hike from the previous quarter.
Derbyshire is in the second position in the list; it has seen 1.3 million robbed from its customers. The amount is approximately a 47% increase on the previous quarter’s amount.
The next three countries on the list were Kent, Hampshire, and Greater Manchester, respectively. Santander warns its customers to be practically observant in Derbyshire. The highest number of fraudulent claims was reported in Greater London, with 903 customers who were reporting a claim between January and March 2025.
Worryingly, a total of 10 million Pounds was robbed by scammers in Greater London across the six popular regions.
The Head of Fraud Risk Management at Santander UK, Chris Ainsley, said that 5 million is a staggering amount to have been taken from their customers in just five UK regions and put into the criminal underworld.
Ainsley also added that when they scale up to all residents and all regions around the UK, it was quickly evident what a scourge to society frauds and scams still were. He also added that the scams are evolving at breakneck speed, so it remains incredibly important to stay vigilant for those tell-tale signs.
The scammers trick buyers in a purchase scam, where buyers pay for the goods and services that don’t exist at all. Scammers are making more than half of such frauds.
Customers between 18 to 34, and those who are aged more than 80, are massively impacted by the frauds. Satander stated that with a 6% and 7% rise in claims. According to reports, purchase scams are the most commonly types of reported scams by the Santander customers.
