On Monday, hundreds of thousands of people attended a parade in England where a motorist crashed a car into a group of pedestrians celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League victory.
Reports that a car had struck the throng prompted the Merseyside Police to call them at around 6 p.m. local time on Monday.
People were left on the ground as a dark-colored car with a shattered rear window swerved into the throng and struck procession participants, according to social media footage.
The victims, some of whom were stuck underneath the car, are seen in the video being rushed to help, and after the car stopped, the crowd gathered around it.
Additionally, the video shows witnesses trying to stop the car. One of them tries to pry open the driver’s side door before the man in the driver’s seat slams it shut and speeds into the throng.
During a press conference on Monday evening, Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims stated: “What I can tell you is that we believe this to be an isolated incident and we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with it. The incident is not being treated as terrorism.
According to an eyewitness, the crash occurred approximately ten minutes after the bus transporting the Liverpool squad had passed, according to the British Broadcasting Corporation.
Who is the suspect?
The car halted at the site, and the police reported that a 53-year-old British male from the Liverpool region had been taken into custody.
During the press conference, Ms. Sims stated, “We think he was the driver of the vehicle.”
The ambulance service said on Monday night that at least 47 individuals, including four children, were hurt in the collision.
Twenty more people received on-scene care for minor wounds. The car also struck a paramedic who was riding a bicycle, but he was unharmed.
According to the fire and rescue department, four persons, including a toddler, were momentarily trapped beneath the car. None of the victims were named by officials.

Near the end of the 10-mile parade route, on Water Street in the heart of Liverpool, there was a ramming.
“The scenes in Liverpool are appalling,” Prime Minister Keir Starmer of Britain wrote on social media. “My thoughts are with all those injured or affected.”
Liverpool F.C. wrote on X that it was in direct contact with the police. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident,”.
“We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident,” it said.
