This year’s theme is titled “Superfine: Trailoring Black Style.” It draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.
The theme explores Black menswear and the evolution of Black style over three centuries, focusing on the concept of dandyism, a style marked by elegance, sophistication, and cultural identity.
The exhibition and gala highlight the influence of Black fashion in tailoring and menswear, making this the first Met Gala in over 20 years to centre exclusively on menswear.
The official dress for all attendees is “Tailored for You,” encouraging guests to put their creative spin on classic menswear and suits. This dress code pays tribute to Gala’s focus on Black style and dandyism, inviting personalised and innovative interpretations of tailored fashion.
The event is co-chaired by prominent figures including Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. NBA star LeBron James serves as the honorary chair.
The host committee features a diverse group of celebrities such as Usher, Regina King, Spike Lee, Simone Biles, Janelle Monae, Doechii, and Ayo Edebiri, highlighting Black talent across various fields.
This year is notable for the debut of several Indian celebrities on the Met Gala red carpet. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is expected to make his first appearance alongside Kiara Advani and Diljit Dosanjh. Priyanka Chopra will grace the event for the fifth time. Their participation marks a growing global presence for Indian artists at this prestigious fashion event.
The Met Gala is traditionally held on the first Monday of May, and guests are expected to arrive around 6:00 PM Eastern Time. While the gala itself is an exclusive, invite-only charity dinner and fundraiser, the red carpet event is widely covered by the media and streamed live.
