The Oyster Perpetual Rolex Land-Dweller has been formally introduced by Rolex at Watches and Wonders. This new watch, which is the newest model in the illustrious collection, is the epitome of Rolex workmanship, fusing state-of-the-art technology with a daring new style for the company.
According to Rolex, the Land-Dweller is a declaration of ambition and accuracy, made for people who “see opportunity in every moment.” The watch has at least 32 patent applications, 16 of which are related to its groundbreaking mechanism and 18 of which are unique to this model.
Its central component is the calibre 7135, a high-frequency movement with a 5 Hz beat that allows for tenth-of-a-second accuracy.
This represents a new era in Rolex’s mechanical prowess, with cutting-edge oscillator technology and innovations like the “Dynapulse” escapement guaranteeing superior performance.
The remarkable efficiency of the escapement and the barrel architecture of this movement allows it to have a power reserve of about 66 hours.
The Oyster Perpetual Land-Dweller 40 and Oyster Perpetual Land-Dweller 36, like all Rolex timepieces, are certified by the Superlative Chronometer, which means they have an accuracy of −2/+2 seconds each day.
Additionally, the Land-Dweller introduces the Flat Jubilee, a brand-new integrated bracelet. The traditional five-piece link structure of Rolex’s renowned Jubilee bracelet is retained in this version, but the central links are polished and flat for a smoother fit with the Oyster case.
Satin and polished finishes accentuate the seamless transition between the bracelet and case. To further emphasise Rolex’s dedication to longevity and durability, the bracelet also has ceramic inserts to stop premature wear.
The Land-Dweller’s elegant Oyster case, which resembles the rare Rolex model 1630 DateJust from 1975, captivates the eye. It has a complex honeycomb dial design and a fluted bezel.
Luminescent hour markers guarantee readability in any situation, and the dial’s six and nine numerals, which were modelled after the Explorer and Air-King, have a contemporary open-centred design. The second-hand counterweight is a noteworthy element that adds a modest yet unique touch by echoing the honeycomb pattern.
A 40 mm white Rolesor edition with a fluted bezel and a crisp white honeycomb dial, a 36 mm model in 18 carat Everose gold with diamond-set indices and a stunning bezel of 44 trapeze-cut diamonds, and a 40 mm platinum edition with an ice-blue dial—a signature Rolex shade saved for its most prestigious timepieces—are the three striking variations of the Land-Dweller, which comes in 36 and 40 mm sizes.
The Land-Dweller is designed for practical use in addition to appearance. The Oyster case offers strong protection for the precisely designed movement and is waterproof up to 100 meters (330 feet).
A rare find in Rolex’s vintage models, the sapphire case back provides a look at the finely detailed calibre 7135, which has a gold oscillating weight and Rolex Côtes de Genève finishing. You can find out more about the Land-Dweller on Rolex’s website. It costs $13,900 or £12,250.
