The Kirklees and Sheffield claim the February Premium Bond jackpot. In February alone, ERNIE has dished out over 5.8 million prizes amounting to over £430 million. The last time Sheffield scooped £1 million in Premium Bonds was exactly two years ago. In bringing two new Premium Bonds millionaires from Kirklees and Sheffield in the February draw, ERNIE is spreading early Valentine’s love around Yorkshire. This month, more than 5.8 million prizes were paid out, with Premium Bonds holders netting almost £430 million.
The first Bond number drawn, 150EN423722, goes to a winning holder based in Kirklees. The jackpot winner purchased his winning bond in January 2009, when they held the value of Premium Bonds at £50,000. This meant they became the third jackpot winner from Kirklees.
Sheffield-based Bond holder 513EP525664 was the second Bond number to win £1 million this month. The winner received their winning bond in September 2022 and currently owns £10,000 in Premium Bonds. They are the fourth Sheffield-born Premium Bonds jackpot millionaire to date.
There is a 22,000-to-one chance of winning. There are approximately 166 awards of £50,000 and 82 prizes of £100,000 in total. As NS&I announced at the end of last year, the prize fund rate for Premium Bonds has fallen since the January 2025 draw.
The Treasury supports NS&I, and it is expected to balance the needs of taxpayers, savers, and the wider financial market. According to NS&I retail director Andrew Westhead, “We carefully review our savings rates in response to changes in the broader market.
“These adjustments help us meet our net financing target while balancing the interests of our savers, taxpayers and the wider financial services sector.”.
“Premium Bonds remain a popular choice for millions of savers, backed by the 100% Government guarantee, with the January 2025 draw set to deliver over 5.8 million tax-free prizes worth more than £431 million.”
