Marks & Spencer (M&S) has urgently recalled two checked products from its Northern Ireland stores due to the detection of Salmonella. Southern Fried Chicken Burgers and Chicken Kyivs have use-by dates ranging from January 26 to February 1, 2025.
This recall follows a proactive approach by the supermarket to safeguard customer health amid rising concerns over food safety.
Crispy Southern Fried Chicken Burgers are sold in 282g packs, and the Chicken Kyivs are packaged in 320g units containing two pieces. The use-by dates for the burgers are January 26, January 30, January 31, and February 1, while Chicken Kyivs have a use-by date of January 26, 2025.
M&S has clearly stated, “Please do not consume this product,” emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.
Customers who have purchased these items are advised not to return them to stores for refunds. Instead, M&S has implemented a full refund policy for those possessing the recalled products.
The company displayed point-of-sale notices in all affected retail locations to inform shoppers about the recall and provide guidance on proceeding if they have bought any of the implicated items.
Salmonella infection can lead to symptoms such as fever, diarrhoea, and abdominal cramps, typically manifesting between 12 and 36 hours after exposure. In some cases, these symptoms can be severe enough to necessitate hospitalization, particularly among vulnerable populations, including the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.
M&S has urged customers to remain vigilant and monitor their health if they have consumed any of the affected products.
The FSA said, “These batches of Marks and Spencer Crispy Southern Fried Chicken Burger and 2 Chicken Kyivs are being recalled due to the possible presence of Salmonella.”
“People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between 6 and 72 hours. The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include fever, headache, and abdominal cramps.”
“The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.”
For further information or inquiries about the recall, customers can contact Marks & Spencer directly at their customer service line. The company is taking swift action to mitigate any potential health risks and restore consumer confidence in its food products.
As M&S navigates this situation, it remains committed to prioritizing customer safety above all else.
