Stars of Cobra Kai, Tanner Buchanan and Mary Mouser recently announced their engagement and love after years of fan speculation. On Thursday, the long-time co-stars announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post.
On February 13, the day the last episodes of the “Karate Kid” spinoff were released on the streaming service, Netflix announced their engagement.
“COBRA CRYING BECAUSE TANNER BUCHANAN & MARY MOUSER ARE ENGAGED,” tweeted Netflix’s official X account.
Later, on February 13, Buchanan and Mouser jointly posted on Instagram, making their relationship status public for the first time.
Buchanan wrote in the caption: “We’re so happy to finally share that we’re engaged. This is such a special moment in our lives, the closing of one chapter and celebrating the continuation of another,” “We’re so grateful for the love and support, and though we’re partial to having our private moments, we’re excited to share this check-in to our world”.
The announcement followed their Wednesday red carpet walk together at Netflix’s Cobra Kai event, which marks the release of the last instalment of the show’s sixth season on Thursday. They both raised their hands to show matching silver rings as Mouser posed with her arm around Buchanan’s shoulder.
Mouser, 28, wore a brown, glittery minidress and a combination of silver bangles and necklaces as she posed on the red carpet. Buchanan, 26, on the other hand, was dressed in a grey tie and navy blue suit, with yellow sunglasses and a silver watch.
Over the years, Buchanan and Mouser have been spotted together, notably in 2023 at a Taylor Swift concert. It wasn’t until the debut that they addressed the relationship rumours.
At the event, the He’s All That star told People that Mouser was “a hundred per cent” his ride-or-die confidant. He did admit, though, that he was quite close to “literally everybody” in the Cobra Kai ensemble.
“There’s not one person that we don’t hang out with and have fun with, and we truly keep saying that we’re going to be around in each other’s lives forever. I don’t know how to explain it,” he said.
Fans have been wondering for years whether Buchanan and Mouser were together, and now they are engaged. Even though they had previously shared a lot of content about one another on social media, they have never claimed to be together.
Mouser portrays Sam in Cobra Kai, a young karate star who is the daughter of Daniel LaRusso, played by Ralph Machchio in the original Karate Kid films. Buchanan portrays Robby, the son of Johnny Lawrence, Daniel’s adversary. As Buchanan previously said, Sam and Robby had a brief affair in the early seasons of the show.
In 2021, he talked to Interview Magazine about how odd it was for his character to be dating Mouser when at the time, they were only acquaintances in real life.
“The romantic scenes are what causes me the most anxiety. You could talk to Mary [Mouser] about this because she and I are such good friends,” he explained. “When we had our first kiss scene in season 2, they were asking us, ‘Are you ready?’ My heart was pounding, I was shaking. It just feels weird to go to that place, because we’re such good friends”.
