LeBron James barred through the lane and left Phoenix Suns left-handed home. He sprung through the air to reject a shot.
On the first night of the year 22, albeit during the preseason, James did the same things he had done on the court for generations. LeBorn showcased his enduring skills by scoring 19 points by halftime for the Lakers against the Phoenix Suns.
In the recent match last Sunday, he may have unveiled his latest, maybe greatest trick ever.
For the first time in NBA history, a father and son played together professionally. LeBron James and his oldest son Bronny shared the court for a four-minute and nine-second shift.
But the Duo’s debut won’t be official until they play together in the regular season. Sunday’s performance not only highlights his longevity, not just as a pro but as the best in the league.
Coincidentally, it was Bronny’s 20th birthday last Sunday.
“It’s surreal—doing two on two, Pick and Rolls together in practice. It will be fun when they’re on the court together,” Lakers coach JJ Redick said pregame.
“I’m excited about it. I’m very honoured that I get to be part of history.”
Phoenix star Kevin Durant recently opened up about his unique experience of playing against both James. Players like Kelvin, who saw Bronny grow up, playing against him in an NBA game is especially surreal.
Speaking with reporter Mark Medina after Sun’s preseason game, Durant explained, “Playing against Bronny James will be cool, I remember Bronny running around when he was in elementary school, being around LeBron James and his family 10, 12, 13, years ago.
So this moment is pretty cool to see him out on the court with ‘James Jr.’ on his back alongside his dad—it’s crazy.”
Although the early return of the duo playing together was universally positive. On Saturday, D’Angelo Russell expressed their joy to see the off-court moments between the first father-son duo in NBA history.
“You kind of see the world of wisdom that Bro’s dropping whenever he gets the chance. Pulling his little one to the side, dropping jewels whenever he gets the chance,” Russell said.
“I mean, that’s a secret. That’s a cheat to the test, right? You got somebody that has all the answers.”
Recently, LeBron addressed rumours regarding his decision to the Lakers in 2018. LeBorn expressed his primary motivation was to help rejuvenate the Laker’s legacy and championship.
He also expressed that his focus is always on contributing to the team’s success rather than being influenced by events involving other players. His contribution as a personal milestone and Laker’s success ensures another successful season.
