The reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles kicked off their title defence with a 24-10 victory against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night.
After months of waiting, the 2025 Eagles vs the Cowboys is finally here!
The 2025 NFL season certainly did not start on a banner note for the Philadelphia Eagles. Jalen Carter, an all-pro defensive tackle, was ejected before the first play for clashing for unsportsmanlike conduct, allegedly spitting on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
However, the Philadelphia Eagles have overcome their own sloppiness, a weather delay, and the aggressive Dallas Cowboys to prevail for a 24-20 victory.
Since 2005, the ejection was the quickest in the match, when former Eagles linebaker Jeremiah Trotter Sr. was ejected from the match for a pregame argument before the Eagles’ season opener.
Jalen Carter’s absence massively impacted the Eagles’ defence, as Javonte Williams scored two rushing touchdowns on the first two possessions of the match.
The game started like an offensive shootout; however, after the mid-game weather delay, the Dallas Cowboys stepped up, with Philadelphia held the Cowboys scoreless during the second half of the game.
Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts led his team to win the game with his excellent performance. Hurts completed 19 of 23 for 152 yards, with no interceptions and no touchdowns. Hurts ran for 65 yards, while Dak Prescott from the Cowboys finished 21 for 34 for 188 yards, with no touchdowns and no interceptions.
CeeDee Lamb was the favourite target of Prescott. The Philadelphia Eagles managed to secure their win without the intelligent defensive Jalen Carter. The Cowboys had a chance to score on the team’s final drive. Lamb couldn’t enclose two catches on deep balls that could have taken Dallas in position to get a go-ahead score.
Saquon Barkley also had a rushing touchdown as he totalled 60 yards. Both teams scored on every possession in the first half; the game slowed after the weather delay in the fourth quarter. There are chances for Dallas to win, but it couldn’t break through.
Even with the loss, the Cowboys showed they are talented enough to compete with one of the best teams in the league.
The Eagles, who finished with nine accepted penalties, delivered an all-time dominant and championship-winning performance.
