OpenAI has officially released ChatGPT 5, its newest and most advanced artificial intelligence model, during a livestream event on Thursday. The tech world has been waiting for its launch, and expectations were high. The livestream, called “LIVE5TEAM,” started at 10 AM Pacific Time and was watched by a global audience.
CEO Sam Altman described CHATGPT 5 a their smartest, fastest and most useful AI model yet. He said it offers “PhD-level” expertise in many areas, including coding, writing and responding to health-related questions. Altman promised not only improved speed and accuracy but also fewer hallucinations, with the AI generating fewer incorrect responses than before.
The new model is available to all CHATGPT including those using the free version. However, paid subscribers on the Pro plan get unlimited access and extra usage options. For free users, access may be temporarily limited due to high demand, especially during the initial rollout period. Users who reach their usage limit can still use a lighter version called GPT 5 mini.
During the livestream, OpenAI showcased several key features of ChatGPT 5. The AI’s new “vibe coding” capability was a highlight. This feature enables users to build software and web apps just by describing what they want. OpenAI demonstrated the AI creating educational apps from a simple prompt in minutes. Users can further customise these AI-generated applications for their specific needs.
The model also sets a new standard for voice interaction. ChatGPT 5 now sounds incredibly natural, allowing real-time conversation for both free and paid users. The upgraded voice mode is available on custom GPTs. enabling users to tailor the voice experience precisely to their preferences.
Safety was a major topic during the announcement. OpenAI stated that ChatGPT 5 underwent over 5,000 hours of safety testing. The model now provides “safe completions,” meaning it gives helpful responses without offering information that could be misused. It is designed to spot tasks it cannot safely perform and explain its reasoning and limitations clearly.
ChatGPT 5 is now the default AI engine in ChatGPT, replacing previous models for signed-in users. It delivers better results for writing, coding and everyday tasks. More than 700 million weekly users are expected to upgrade quickly, with businesses and educators especially eager to try the new features.
OpenAI executives believe this release marks a turning point in daily life and work. The company says GPT-5 will improve productivity and creativity for millions. As the rollout continues, users around the world will discover what this new model can do and how it changes the way we interact with AI.
