“And Just Like That” Ends with Season 3: A Final Goodbye to Carrie and Friends

The HBO Max series “And Just Like That,” a sequel to the iconic “Sex and the City,” is ending after its third season. The showrunner, Michael Patrick King, announced that Season 3 will be the final chapter of the series. The decision came while the king was writing the last episode of the current season. He felt it was the right time to conclude the story.

Season 3 of “And Just Like That” consists of 12 episodes, which is slightly expanded from the originally planned 10 episodes. The season’s finale will be a two-part episode, wrapping up the series. King, along with Sarah Jessica Parker (who plays Carrie Bradshaw), Casey Bloys, and Sarah Aubrey, agreed to end the show this year.

The series, which launched in December 2021, revisits the lives of Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York from “Sex and the City,” showing their experiences and friendships in New York City decades later. Kim Cattrall’s character, Samantha Jones, does not return in Season 3 but appears briefly through a text message in one episode.

Sarah Jessica Parker, who has portrayed Carrie Bradshaw for nearly 27 years, shared an emotional farewell to her character. She expressed deep gratitude to the fans, saying that Carrie has been an important part of her career and life. The writers also hinted that Carrie’s story in this final season ends with a sense of closure, returning her to a single life in New York, which has been a core part of her character for years.

The final episodes of Season 3 began airing in late May 2025, with the conclusion scheduled for August 14, 2025. This announcement came close to the airing of the last episodes, which surprised some fans. The show has kept the final season’s status under wraps to let viewers enjoy the story without anticipation being overshadowed by knowledge of the ending.

“And Just Like That” is the second spinoff from “Sex and the City,” following the prequel series “The Carrie Diaries.” Since its return, it has entertained fans by showing how these characters navigate life, love, and friendship in their midlife.

The ending marks the close of the “Sex and the City” universe’s ongoing narrative, which began in 1998 with the original HBO series. That original show ran for six seasons and was followed by two feature films before the “And Just Like That” spinoff revived the story for fans of the franchise.

King and the team thanked the viewers for welcoming the characters into their hearts over the years. The finale aims to provide a satisfying closing to the beloved series and its characters, honouring the legacy of “Sex and the City.”
