Former Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn Establishes a New Party Called “Your Party” With Zarah Sultana

A new political party is being launched by former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn in an effort to “take on the rich and powerful” and advocate for income redistribution. The unnamed group, according to the independent MP for Islington North, would provide a counter to the “control freaks” of Labour and the “dangerously divisive” policies of Reform UK. 

Before this, Corbyn and Zarah Sultana, who recently left Labour to become an independent MP, released a joint statement that read: “It’s time for a new kind of political party– one that belongs to you.”

Responding to the launch, a Labour Party source said: “The electorate has twice given its verdict on a Jeremy Corbyn-led party.”

Corbyn and Sultana promised to combat injustices, including child poverty, large corporations that make “a fortune from rising bills,” and the government’s claim that “there is no money for the poor, but billions for war” in a statement announcing their intention to start a new party.

In response to a question about whether his party would replicate Labour under his leadership, Corbyn stated: “The Labour Party is a very top-down, highly centralised party that is full of control freaks who want to control whatever goes on within the party. 

“This is going to be community-led, community-based, grassroot-led, this is going to be very different, and you know what? It’s going to be fun.”

The new co-leaders are from quite different political generations; Sultana has only been an MP for six years, while Corbyn has been for nearly fifty years. However, they both believe that they can profit on the energy on the left of British politics. Signing up to help create “a real, democratic alternative rooted in communities up and down the country” is what the two are urging people to do.

According to their statement, the party’s policy will be decided at the inaugural convention, which is anticipated to take place in the autumn. However, it is evident where they stand on the political spectrum: they are much more anti-Israel and to the left of the Labour Party on immigration, nationalisation, and taxes.

“Take on the rich and powerful — and win” is their state’s goal. However, even a relatively small percentage of the vote in a general election might put Labour at risk of losing a significant number of seats, if not to the new party directly.

They might be put to the test sooner. Now, it appears that the party will be operational in time for the May 2026 local elections, which will include council elections in London and other cities, which are probably the most productive areas for this party worldwide.
