The UK government will test the Country’s Emergency Alerts System again in 2025. So, an emergency alert will be sent to everyone’s phone as the Cabinet Office has issued a new statement regarding this nationwide alarm test.
In emergencies, the government sends emergency alerts to the citizens’ phones, and it was first launched in 2023.
Government officials announced that the phone emergency alert is used to inform Britons of any emergency, including bad weather, disaster, and war.
Although the exact date for the emergency alert test has not yet been published. However, it has been declared that this emergency alert test will be done once every two years.
One Cabinet Office spokesperson said that this system is not designed to cause panic, but to notify people about imminent threats and act quickly. This alert test is a part of constructing national resilience and protecting lives in future crises.
As of now, only two emergency phone alerts have been successfully sent. The loud siren, which took many people by surprise when it was tested in 2023 for the first time.
A new UK government service, Severe Alert, will warn people if there is a life-threatening emergency arises nearby.
According to reports, in a real emergency, every individual needs to follow the instructions in the alert to keep themselves safe. This is only a test, so no one needs to take any action.
As global tensions rise and concerns over international relationships are growing, the UK government has initiated to call for an emergency alert test for the people. The conflict in the Middle East prompted disturbances in Iran this year, which also influenced this emergency test initiative.
During the emergency test, the phone will make a loud sound, even if the device is set to silent mode. Also, there will be heavy vibration in the phone. The sound will be different from the usual notification sound.
When the first emergency alert test took place in 2023, many users complained about not getting the alerts. The users were from the Three Mobile network, which is one of the biggest mobile networks in the UK.
One spokesperson of the company said that they are aware of the fact that several customers had not received the test alert. So, they are working closely with the government to understand the reason for this fact. They also ensure that this will not happen again if the device is in use.
The government declared that the exact timing for the test depended on the operators’ network. All those have different speeds.
One Cabinet Office spokesperson confirmed that they will be looking at this as part of their review of the test.
