Former Democratic Rep. from Hawaii, Tulsi Gabbard, has officially announced that she is joining the Republic Party. This announcement was made at the Trump rally on Tuesday in Greensboro, North Carolina.
She praised the GOP presidential nominee for bringing the Republic Party “back to the party of the people and the party of peace.”
Gabbard said on the stage, “It is because of my love for our country and especially because of the leadership that President Trump has brought to transform the Republican party and bring it back to the party of the people and the party of peace that I am proud to stand here with you today, President Trump and announce that I’m joining the Republican Party.”
She continued, “I’m joining the party of people, the party of equality, the party that was founded to fight against slavery in this country.
It is the party of common sense, led by a president who has the courage and strength to fight for peace.”
In her speech, she expressed that the Democratic Party no longer represents independent thinkers like her and asserted that the Republican Party is more welcoming for individuals who cherish freedom and uphold the Constitution.
Gabbard said, “To those of you here or those watching at home who are independent-minded people like myself who love our country and are committed to the constitution and to freedom, the democratic party has no home for people like us.
But we do have a home in the Republic Party where we are welcomed with open arms by President Trump.”
She added, “I’m proud to stand here with you today, President Trump, and announce that I’m joining the Republic Party.”
Gabbard was not running for her House seat in 2020, instead joining a crowded Democratic primary. As a result, Joe Biden won the nomination and presidency.
At Tuesday’s rally, Trump said he didn’t know that Gabbard was joining the Republican Party; “it was a surprise.”. “That was really…she has been independent for a long time. It’s a great thing, a great honour,” he exclaimed.
Gabbard, who is a National Guard veteran, served two tours of duty in the Middle East. It has been critical for her to serve the country, especially the country’s engagement in wars in that region.
She was the sole Democrat, supported Sen. Bernie Sanders for the president in 2016, and ultimately endorsed Biden in 2020.
She left the Democratic Party in 2022 and remained independent for 2 years. Now she continues to campaign for high-profile Republicans and is active in conservative media.
