The Met Office has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for various parts of the UK. On Friday evening (June 13), the UK is expected to be hit by intense rainfall and frequent lightning.
The National Weather and Climate Service has declared that several parts of the UK may set to be hit by road flooding due to intense rainfall. The UK people could expect power cuts and flooding at homes and businesses.
The amber weather warning says that the extreme thunderstorm may bring hail and gusty winds. However, the thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of East Anglia and eastern parts of East Sussex and Kent. The warning says that the severe weather condition may last between 8 pm on Friday and 5 am on Saturday.
The warning also says that fast-flowing or deep floodwater may cause danger to life.
A yellow thunderstorm warning has been issued until 11:59 pm covering southwestern England and Wales. Further, a yellow warning has come into place at 7 pm, lasting until 6 am on Saturday.
The forecaster says that initially, during the evening, it will be dry towards the South East, but they will keep an eye on developments over Northern France very closely. These are the regions where the thunderstorm may further develop and drift northeastwards, according to Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern.
The RAC has issued warnings for drivers, highlighting the dangers of driving during severe thunderstorms. Strong winds can break down trees and power lines. Drivers are requested to exercise caution, slow down, and they must avoid the regions prone to heavy rainfall.
The Environment Agency has published guidance for residents and businesses in the prone regions. The Flood Duty Manager highlighted the danger of significant surface water flooding in several parts of England.
In addition to the severe weather warnings, temperatures in various parts of eastern England seem to rise to around 29 degrees C on Friday, June 13. The temperature remains warm on Friday evening.
In response to the heat, the UK Health Security Agency has issued its first yellow health warning. The yellow warning has been issued for London, the East of England, the South East, and the East Midlands.
Scotland also expects its warmest day of the year with 25.7 degrees C, according to a spokesperson of the Met Office.
The UK is expected to experience significant weather disruptions within the next 24 hours, with intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and chances of flooding. People are urged to remain cautious, follow the safety guidelines, and monitor official updates for the latest weather information.
