Ryanair Flight Strikes Barrier After Turbulent Landing at Kalamata Airport

A Ryanair flight from London Stansted to Kalamata International Airport in Greece crashed into a fence after landing on June 18, 2025. The Boeing 737 was taxiing to its parking stand when the wingtip struck a red and white perimeter fence at the airport.

Passengers reported severe turbulence during the nearly four-hour flight. Many described the journey as bumpy, with the crew warning of a rough landing. After touchdown, as the plane was taxiing, a loud banging noise was heard inside the cabin when the wing hit the barrier. Passengers felt the impact clearly and were momentarily alarmed.

Despite the damage, the aircraft continued to its stand, and all passengers disembarked normally. Emergency services responded quickly, but no injuries were reported. Some passengers expressed concern about being asked to remain on board after the collision, given the visible wing damage and potential fire risk. The crew followed safety protocols, keeping passengers seated until emergency responders assessed the situation.

Some passengers expressed concern about being told to stay onboard after the collision. They feared the risk of fire due to wing damage. There were also complaints about the lack of seatbelt signs during the turbulence.

Images from the scene showed the wingtip badly damaged and torn from its usual position. The aircraft was identified as a Boeing 737 Max 8, registration EI-HMZ. Following the incident, Ryanair conducted thorough inspections and maintenance on the plane. The airline confirmed the aircraft was cleared and has since returned to operational service.

Flight FR6080 departed London Stansted at 8:46 AM BST and landed at Kalamata at 2:45 PM local time. This incident happened shortly after landing on runway 17R at Kalamata International Airport. The incident adds to a series of runway and taxiway mishaps reported in 2025, including a JetBlue Airbus A220 veering off the runway at Boston Logan International Airport earlier in June.

Ryanair emphasised its strong safety record, noting it has never had a fatal accident in its 40-year history and only one hull loss. The airline described the event as a taxiing mishap rather than a crash, with no injuries or fatalities.

The Ryanair flight from London to Kalamata suffered a wingtip collision with an airport barrier during taxiing after a turbulent flight. Thankfully, no one was hurt, and the plane was repaired for continued service. Passengers experienced a tense landing and post-landing incident but were safely evacuated.
