Apple has officially announced its plans to release its next iOS update at the WWDC keynote on June 9, 2025. In the event, Apple has also revealed the key features for the upcoming iPadOS update, watchOS, macOS, and more.
According to some rumours, the upcoming iOS will be known as Apple iOS 26. The company is initiating to break down of its tradition and switching to a simpler naming convention rather than a sequential number. Apple is focusing on bringing consistency to the way it names all its operating systems
Apple iOS 26 iPhones are expected to be available from 15 September 2025. iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS will probably be available to download at the same time. The release of iOS 26 will happen shortly after the September event and the launch of iPhone 17.
Apple runs a developer beta and a public beta. The developer beta is expected to be released on the same day as the keynote. Now, it’s been confirmed that June 9 is the day of release for the developer betas. So, the Apple users who want to try out the new features before they are released to the general public won’t have to wait until the complete release to try the new software.
There will be the biggest change in iOS 26 release, and it is a visual one, a bold new redesign. iOS 26 is expected to come with the biggest change to iOS compared to iOS 7, released in 2013.
According to some rumours, iOS 26 is to be more slick and modern. The company said that iOS 26 is to adopt elements from VisionOS. The design is based on Liquid Glass, which comes with a translucent effect that dramatically reacts to your movements.
The new design of iOS 26 extends to the dock, widgets, and icons. Though there are not only visual changes, there will be changes throughout the iOS 26 features. The company is trying hard to make iOS more intuitive.
There will be changes on FaceTime, Phone, Messages, games, Apple Wallet, Music, Maps, and other apps. Apple Intelligence elevates the iPhone experience and enables Apple users to get things done easier than ever. Live Translation is integrated into FaceTime, Messages, and Phone. So, the users can communicate across languages, translating texts and audio on the fly.
Now, Apple users can search for and take action on anything they are viewing in the apps. Genmojhi and Image Playground provide more ways to express the users themselves. Users can mix their favourite emoji, Genmoji, and description to create something impressive.
Shortcuts will be more powerful and smarter than ever. Users can tap into intelligent actions and can see dedicated actions for features such as writing tools and Image Playground.
The Phone app now offers a unified layout that combines VoiceMail, Recents, and Favourites in one place. Now, the messages from the unknown senders will appear in a dedicated folder where users can mark the numbers as known or can delete them as well.
