EasyJet flight makes an emergency landing: One of the pilots on an easyJet flight from Egypt to Manchester collapsed, forcing an emergency landing. One of the pilots experienced a medical problem on Saturday night, forcing the plane to be diverted to Athens instead of continuing on its original route from Hurghada to the northern English city.
Two hours into the trip, passengers began to suspect something was amiss, and cabin crew members were observed racing to the front of the aircraft as soon as the pilot fainted.
According to a passenger who spoke to The Mirror, crew members then “screamed if anyone was medically trained,” which prompted several of them to “get up and assist the cabin crew.” Additionally, they added:
‘The following call was from the cabin crew to advise This was the captain/pilot who was seeking medical attention and has fallen. unwell, and we again would be further updated with what was going to happen.
‘At this point the passengers were starting to get rather worried and anxious, including myself, knowing that it was a pilot and not the passenger.’
The unnamed passenger claimed that after learning that the captain had collapsed and that the crew had instructed them to make an emergency landing, everyone on board felt “rather worried and anxious.” The very hard and dangerous’ landing was fortunately executed successfully by the surviving pilot, allowing paramedics to board the plane and administer treatment.
“We started to panic, thinking it was the end,” the passenger stated, describing the tumultuous scenes during the landing.
An oxygen mask was given to a passenger who started having a panic attack. Numerous fire engines, police cars, and ambulances met the crew. and passengers when they safely touched down.
After being informed that a hotel was being arranged, many of them ended up sleeping at the airport. floor. The passenger went on to say that the co-pilot and cabin crew had been “fantastic.” and that everyone congratulated him with “a very big well done” once he had finished the landing.
An easyJet spokesperson said, ‘easyJet can confirm that Flight EZY2252 from Hurghada to Manchester yesterday evening was diverted to Athens due to the captain requiring medical assistance.
‘The First Officer performed a routine landing per standard operating procedures, and the aircraft was met by paramedics on arrival in Athens.
‘As a result, the onward flight was delayed overnight and Passengers will continue their journey to Manchester today. We did all possible. to minimise the impact of the disruption and arrange hotel rooms and meals where available.
‘We would like to apologise to passengers for the inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience and understanding.’
The passenger stated, “The ride began to get very rough. & scary, and as we approached the runway,” the passenger said. “We started to panic. I got upset once I felt how rocky and rough the landing was and started to panic thinking it was the end.”
The co-pilot successfully landed the aircraft at the Athens airport, where emergency vehicles were waiting on the tarmac. The co-pilot received a “very big well done” from the passengers for their efforts.
