A remarkable day of talent and composure, Maia Bauchier made her test debut for England against South Africa in Bloemfontein on December 15, 2024.

Bauchier expressed immense pride in her achievement, stating, “This is a dream come true. I’ve always wanted to play Test cricket, and scoring a century on debut is something I will cherish forever.”
At the end of the first day, a special cap ceremony, my dad was waiting for me in the changing room and made a little speech, and everyone started crying.
Bouchier said, “It was along the lines of: I’m very proud, and I think it was the best day of my life.”
It was very special for him because he’s waited a long time for it as well. What I remember was us watching Test match cricket together, watching the best players in the world bat all day, and I think that’s what he wanted me to do.
To go out there and play how I did—I’m so proud of myself, and I know he’s proud of me, so that’s all I can hope for.”
The opening day saw England declare at 395 for 9, with Bouchier forming a formidable partnership of 174 runs with Sciver Brunt for the third wicket.
Boucher’s ability to adapt her game was evident; she initially capitalized on loose deliveries before demonstrating patience as South Africa tightened their bowling.
“I took my time to settle in and then looked to score when the opportunities arose,” she said. Her innings included 22 fours and two sixes, highlighting her aggressive talent.”

The England captain, Heather Knight, said, “We needed someone to step up and fill that opening role, and Maia did just that.”
