The Concord game is officially dead. In an official statement published on PlayStation’s blog, the company has announced that its recently released multiplier shooter is going to be offline after two weeks of launch.
Concord was launched on August 23 on PlayStation 5 and PC and the decision comes after a disastrous launch for the game. After the launch, there were mostly positive reviews but a middling player count.
On Steam, the game’s PC version rose to an all-time high of only 697 players on its release day, and the number is very slow. Concord was dwarfed daily by many games released decades ago. According to reports, there were only 28 players actively playing Concord on Stem, with a 24-hour peak of 110.
The Director of the game, Ryan Ellis has confirmed that the Concord game will go offline on September 6. He also stated that the game will not be available for purchase as of today, September 3. He acknowledged that the game’s performance was unable to meet its expectations.
The post said that although many qualities of the game resonated with the experience of many players they also recognized that other aspects of the game and their initial launch did not work as they had expected. Therefore, then, they have decided to take the Concord game offline beginning September 6, 2024.
Moreover, he also added that the team will continue exploring options including those that will better reach their players. The blog also confirmed that any player who purchased the game digitally will be allowed to receive a refund. Moreover, anyone who purchased a physical version of the game on disc will need to go through the refund procedure of their specific retailer.
The situation is a major blow for Sony because Sony’s other multiplayer game of the year, Helldivers 2, has experienced a huge success online since its release in February. Concord was classified as a hero shooter, and it was expected to compete with many popular titles such as Overwatch and Valorant. In the Concord game, players build up teams with characters possessing unique abilities. So, the game faced difficulties in attracting players.
Although the game’s servers are going offline and the game is being pulled from storefronts, Sony and its developers remain vague about the future of the game. Whether Concord may return in another form? There is a possibility that the game may come back as a free-to-play game.
